Keeping your Eyes Clean with Contact Lens Solution

A good contact lens solution is essential to keep your eyes from irritation because of prolonged use. To clean or sanitize, maintain and extend the life of your contact lens, a contact lens solution should be applied.

For a clearer vision and comfortable wear, a contact lens solution should be able to clean your contact lens thoroughly.  In the market, there are different available contact lens solution.  It is important for the user to know what is appropriate for him or her with regards to his or her contact lens.

The type of contact lens solution that takes off dirt, mucus and debris that accumulated in the contact lens while in use is called a cleaning solution.  To avoid breaking the lenses the wearer should rub it with care.  Hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in this type of cleaning solution.

Only after the first solution before one can use the second solution.  Saline contact lens solution will rinse off the first solution from the lenses.  This is used to counteract the effect of the hydrogen peroxide from the first cleaning solution.

Now, the third contact lens solution is employed to disinfect the lenses.  This solution kills and inhibits bacteria, fungus and other harmful microorganisms that stay on the lenses and can irritate and infect the eyes.  An enzymatic cleaner can remove substances like protein.  This type of cleaner comes as a tablet that is dropped to the solution and stored overnight.

There are also multi-purpose solutions, it is generally an all-in-one solution.  Cleaners, disinfectants and protein removers are in one bottle. All it needs to counteract the solution is the saline solution used after the contact lens overnight.

The last contact lens solution is used for rewetting the lenses.  If the lenses are being used for long periods of time, these drops are used as a lubricant.  Their primary purpose is to keep the eyes moist and enhance the comfort of contact lens usage.
